Vera from Surrey in her electric wheelchair. She is 82 and suffers from Cerebral Palsy says "twith a computer the world is at my finger tips"Dear Silver Surfers

I have just been reading the article in Webwatch and would like to say that my computer is one thing I would not be without as it is my window to the world. As someone who has Cerebral Palsy I can not write or speak normally so find letter writing and speaking on the phone difficult, but with a computer the world is at my fingers tips because I can keep in touch with friends by email, go shopping, find out whatever I wish from the Web and keep a photo album to name but a few things I do on it.

So many elderly people say they could never use a computer or that they might break it and will not touch one. To be honest I do not see how, as I have found there is always a way of putting things right. My sister is 86 and I am 82 and we use one on a regular basis for a hundred and one things and find it a great help. Because of my disability I cannot always hit the right key so I bought a key guard that can be removed in two seconds when some one else wants to use the computer. I never handle the mouse as I cannot control it, but by switching on the numeric pad I can type what I like. So to all those people who have not yet tried using a computer I would urge them to have a go. Truly it is not as painful as it looks.
