How to Watch UK TV Programmes from Abroad
The sites referred to below are listed to the left
1. Signup to a UK-based Virtual Private Network, abbreviated to VPN (eg My Private Network). This usually involves a small monthly subscription fee
2. Whenever you go online and wish to view TV from abroad you must be logged into the internet via your UK VPN ie first log onto the internet by your normal method (eg WiFi or mobile 3G) then once online connect via your VPN
3. Select the website through which you want to watch TV. This can be a 'catch-up' player like the BBC's iPlayer or 'live' streaming TV from a site like TVCatchup
4. Watch TV on a computer (this can be Windows-based PCs or Apple Macs) through a 'wired' broadband connection or through WiFi or mobile 3G. The WiFi can be public or through a home network/router.
5. If you want to watch on a TV screen connect the computer or iPhone via a suitable cable/connector (eg VGA to SCART) to the TV
6. To watch TV on an iPhone or iPod Touch first setup a VPN connection in 'Settings' and connect via this. Then use the iPlayer or ITV Player or the iPhone TVCatchup site via the Safari browser.
For World Travellers: This 'How to' Guide is intended to help frustrated BBC TV Licence fee payers receive programmes they have already paid for.
